Overview

In preparing the Castle Point Plan the Council must ensure that the proposals it sets out will achieve relevant environmental, economic and social objectives.

The Sustainability Appraisal and Strategic Environmental Assessment Scoping Report and Initial Assessment of Strategic Options identifies a framework to assess emerging plans, policies, proposals and reasonable alternatives in the emerging Castle Point Plan. It also provides an initial assessment of the reasonable alternatives identified in the Issues and Options Document.

By consulting on the scope for the Sustainability Appraisal and Strategic Environmental Assessment now, we aim to ensure that the assessment of the Castle Point Plan that will take place in the autumn is as complete and robust as possible.

By participating now, consultees can ensure that we have identified all the relevant sustainability criteria and objectives that should be tested in the preparation of the Castle Point Plan.

What happens next

All the comments received on the Sustainability Appraisal and Strategic Environmental Assessment Scoping Report will be used update the scope of the Sustainability Appraisal and Strategic Environmental Assessment as appropriate.

A Sustainability Appraisal and Strategic Environmental Assessment will then be carried out on the emerging Castle Point Plan to ensure that any reasonable alternatives are assessed and that any sustainability impacts are managed and mitigated in the Castle Point Plan. 

A Sustainability Appraisal and Strategic Environmental Assessment will accompany the Castle Point Plan submitted for examination. Comments on the Sustainability Appraisal and Strategic Environmental Assessment itself will be invited at the same time as the Castle Point Plan is published.
