Overview
We have commissioned an open space assessment and are undertaking engagement with residents about how you use and value your local public open spaces and recreation facilities and what might improve their attractiveness to local people.
The results will help us to understand the needs and aspirations of local people regarding the open space and recreation facilities in the area. This will help the us and our partners to plan for future provision based upon clear evidence of what local people need and want.
What is open space?
Open spaces are freely accessible green areas that are available to the public. For this assessment this includes:
- Local recreation grounds and parks
- Children’s play areas
- Facilities for teenagers e.g., stake parks, BMX tracks
- Multi Use Games Areas
- Allotments
- Natural green spaces (woodlands, wildlife areas and nature reserves)
- Informal open spaces for ball games, picnics, dog walking
- Beaches
Why is the assessment being developed?
The assessment is being undertaken as part of work on the Castle Point Plan and will provide an understanding of how much open space there is, the existing quality of open space and how accessible open spaces are.
This will provide invaluable information to assess if there are any gaps in provision that we need to address either as a Council or in partnership with other organisations or the community. It will also help us plan to ensure that existing facilities and open spaces are managed effectively to meet the needs of local people.
Why your views matter
It is critical that local people tell us about their local spaces and how we can make them places local people can enjoy.
You can contribute by:
Completing our Online Survey – complete our online survey to tell us how often you use open spaces, what you would like to see more of and where spaces could be improved.
Identifying important local spaces on our Interactive map – we want to know which open spaces are important to you. Please use the interactive map to identify important open spaces.
This is your chance to help shape the future of Open Space in Castle Point. Please respond thinking about your household as a whole. The survey should take you about 5-10 minutes to complete.
