Overview
Castle Point Borough Council is working to produce a borough wide Design Code.
A Design Code is a set of simple, concise, illustrated design requirements that are visual and numerical wherever possible to provide specific, detailed parameters for the physical development of a site or area.
The National Planning Policy Framework (NPPF) makes clear that all local planning authorities should prepare design guides or codes consistent with the principles set out in the National Design Guide and National Model Design Code, and which reflect local character and design preferences. Good design codes can be a useful tool for designers, developers, applicants, and local authorities aiding the delivery of high-quality places.
Why your views matter
Before we undertake the production of the Design Code, we want to understand what local people think about design in the Borough. We would like to understand what areas, and features, are particularly important to the local community and understand how to improve the look, feel, and functionality of the borough. The Code will be focused on the district level and outline borough wide design parameters and create certainty for the community, local planning authority and development on the expectations of new development. Therefore, we invite you to take part in this short survey. Thank-you.
