Waste and Recycling Consultation 2024
Overview
Waste and Recycling Collection Review and Draft Castle Point Waste and Recycling Strategy 2024 to 2029
The waste and recycling collection review and draft Castle Point Waste and Recycling strategy will target the environmental and waste issues that matter the most to the residents of Castle Point, ensuring the service is modern and future proofed.
As we start this journey, we would like to hear from you. By asking for your views the Council will be able to better understand and, where possible, target the issues to improve and develop our waste and recycling service.
This service is used by every resident every week and your views will contribute towards shaping the future of this important service.
Reviewing our Waste and Recycling Service
We are facing significant challenges and pressure to transform our services and infrastructure to stay in line with government guidance and legislation. The Council proposes to bring forward a Waste and Recycling strategy to ensure the service meets the needs of the community and is modern and future proofed.
To meet these challenges we need to consider the future of the service. We also need to invest in the service, such as our collection vehicles and waste facilities.
We will also focus on supporting residents to reduce, reuse, recycle and recover everything we can from our resources. This approach will align us with government legislation aimed at environmental impact reduction and climate change mitigation.
We are considering introducing wheeled bins for both our non-recyclable and our dry mixed recyclable waste.
The standard size for a non-recyclable waste bin being considered is a 180-litre bin which will hold the equivalent of 3 to 4 waste sacks.
For recycling we are considering a 240-litre bin which will hold the equivalent of 5 to 6 sacks of dry mixed recycling.
Larger bins could be available for bigger households and smaller bins, or continued sack collections may be an option for those unable to store a wheeled bin/bins.
Why a new strategy?
Developing a new strategy will enable us to work more effectivity with partners to deliver sustainable waste services.
We strive to deliver an efficient service and are always seeking innovative solutions that can help us transform the way waste and recycling is managed in Castle Point.
Our five key principles:
- Improving recycling rates and minimising waste.
- Educating residents, starting with our young people.
- Partnership working.
- Reducing cost for our taxpayers.
- Reducing our carbon footprint.
We want to hear your views on these priorities.
Why your views matter
It is important to us that we capture your views about the key principles of the strategy and the waste and recycling service.
We want as many residents as possible to complete the survey, this will help us to ensure that any decisions we make reflect the views of our community.
To do this, we are making it as simple and easy as possible for residents to put forward their views.
Please do take the time to have your say.
Your views will help shape the Waste and Recycling strategy and the future of our Waste and Recycling service, ensuring the service meets the needs of the community, is modern and future proofed.
Our survey runs from 16 September 2024 until 4 November 2024.
