PSPO Renewal and Expansion Consultation

Closes 1 Aug 2025

Opened 4 Jul 2025

Overview

Castle Point Borough Council is proposing to renew the existing Public Space Protection Order (PSPO) for the Roscommon Way area of Canvey Island for a further three years.

In response to ongoing reports of vehicle-related anti-social behaviour, the Council is also considering extending the PSPO to cover three additional locations:

  • Waterside Farm Leisure Centre Car Park

  • Northwick Road

  • Thamesview A130 Business Park (Fenttiman Road)

PSPOs are legal tools available to councils under the Anti-Social Behaviour, Crime and Policing Act 2014. They are designed to help protect public spaces from persistent nuisance or anti-social behaviour that negatively affects the quality of life for local people.

Common issues reported in these areas include racing, dangerous driving, excessive noise, and large gatherings that pose risks to drivers, spectators, and nearby residents.

Breaching a PSPO is a criminal offence and may result in a Fixed Penalty Notice of £100 or a fine of up to £1,000 on conviction.

The Council is now seeking feedback from residents, businesses, visitors, and partner agencies to help decide whether the existing PSPO should be renewed and whether the additional areas should be included.
